From the past:

  • Bike to work campaign
Every year in May, the Czech Republic looks a little more like the Netherlands than a Central- European country as towns all across the country participate in the “Bike to Work campaign”. Over the past two years the Embassy has proudly supported this campaign, organized by local partner Automat. During last year’s edition, more than 5,000 citizens from 26 towns across the Czech Republic participated in the yearly event that supports the use of bicycles on an everyday basis. The aim of the campaign is to reduce the unnecessary flooding of towns with cars, reduce gas emissions, and stimulate a healthy lifestyle. Due to extensive media coverage on TV, radio and the Internet, the event has grown into a nationwide event reaching ca. 300,000 people from all regions of the Czech Republic!
  • BeNeLux Bike Ride
In 2013, on Sunday, 22 September, the international car-free day, the Dutch Embassy organized the Benelux Bike ride together with our colleagues from the Belgium and Luxembourg embassies in Prague. Over a hundred people participated and joined the respective ambassadors for an afternoon bike ride through the center of Prague. On the way, participants collected stamps and were offered refreshments at the checkpoints of the BeNeLux embassies. At the end of the ride, cyclists were rewarded with a well-deserved bite and some drinks. “We are happy that we could show our support of sustainable mobility in this pleasant way together with our Belgian and Luxembourg colleagues. The weather was great and I hope everyone enjoyed the bike ride, just like my wife and I did," said the Dutch Ambassador after arriving at the reception organized by the staff of the Dutch Embassy.
