"Radschnellwege" (Cycling Highways) might become state roads in Nordrhein-Westfalen

The regional government would like to finance Radschnellwege (cycling highways) as their state roads. For this, the country's Cabinet has some proposals to change the cornerstones of their Straßen- und Wegegesetzes (roads law). North Rhine-Westphalia is once again pacing in terms of cycling. With Radschnellweg Ruhr – of which the first section was opened on November 27, 2015 – and five winning projects from the state competition, this part of Germany is the avant-garde of the Republic when it comes to cycling. Transport Minister Michael Groschek will increase the resources for cycling highways with 1.5 million euros yearly, from 2016 to 2019. "Radweg der Deutschen Einheit"
The ‘cycling road of the German Unification’ is a symbol for integration of the East and West infrastructural integration. It finds it way through seven federal states, from the previous capital in Bonn to the new capital Berlin. Along the 1,100 km cycling route are 90 historic places that will tell the history of the unification of East and West Germany and will also contain some futuristic ‘Mobility 4.0’ innovations.

Netherlands as partner country: VELOBerlin 2015
In March 2015, the Netherlands was the partner country of the VELOBerlin. The orange-coloured stand was occupied by Dutch cycling experts and the most beautiful design bicycles. In presentations, experts shared their expertise on cycling parking and cycling planning. The Deputy Mayor of Amsterdam was the special guest to open the fair. The day before the fair, a cycling tour with local authorities and stakeholders was organized by the Dutch Embassy. The conclusion was: Berlin is improving its cycling infrastructure a lot! The advice from Amsterdam, although politically not popular, was that the parking policy could be changed to gain more public space for all traffic – sharing the road by moving modalities and people instead of cars, without movement.
